Overview

Nom de Guerre x Converse

Nom de Guerre collaborated with Converse on a limited-edition Skid Grip, combining Nom de Guerre’s minimal, utilitarian design language with Converse’s iconic status and cultural legacy. The engagement focused on material innovation and functional design, using a rubberized-cotton treatment to enhance water resistance while preserving the silhouette’s understated character.

The collaboration brought together two brands with strong connections to independent creative and social subcultures, broadening each brand’s audience while presenting a longstanding Converse style through a fresh, edgy, fashion-forward lens.

Challenge

The challenge was to showcase the Skid Grip in a way that felt naturalistic and authentic to Nom de Guerre, rather than relying on conventional product advertising. The promotional film needed to communicate the shoe’s design and functionality while maintaining the raw, understated character of the collaboration.

Approach

The visual approach drew inspiration from Sergei Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin, with its military subject matter, rhythmic editing, cuts that follow the way the human eye moves through a scene, and preponderance of footwear shots, which informed a presentation of the Skid Grip as part of a lived environment rather than an isolated product.

Solution

A promotional film was created that presented the Skid Grip in an active, challenging environment, subtly communicating the tactical nature of its design and functionality.

Outcome

The film created a new point of connection between Nom de Guerre and Converse, bringing the Skid Grip into the visual and cultural territory of an independent, fashion-forward audience.
